Wildlife Viewing Tips
Home > Services > Parks & Trails > General Information > Wildlife Viewing Tips

It takes skill, knowledge and patience to see many of the Region's wildlife. To improve your chances, try:

  1. Wearing clothing with colours that blend into the background.

  2. Moving slowly and calmly. Excited voices, quick gestures and making direct eye contact may cause an animal to run away.

  3. Sitting quietly for a period of time to see what happens around you. You may be surprised at what you will see.

  4. Being extra observant. Many animals will see or hear you from a distance and run away, while others will sit quietly and blend in to their surroundings, unnoticed, as you pass.

  5. Making sure the season or area is best for the wildlife you wish to see.

  6. Observing in the early morning and early evening as these are often best times to view wildlife.

  7. Using binoculars so you can keep your distance and get a good look without disturbing animals.

  8. Learning about wildlife to understand and predict their habits.

  9. Calling the FVRD Parks (604) 702-5000 for tips on good areas and best times to see wildlife.
