Sumas Mountain Regional Park

Sumas Mountain Regional Park encompasses 1,445 hectares of forested mountain that contains many different plant, animal, and bird species and provides many recreational opportunities in its east section. The park includes two main hiking trails of moderate to difficult difficulty that may not be suited to all user groups. One trail leads to Chadsey Lake and is about 1.5 km in length (round trip) and requires about two hours return. The trail leading to the viewpoint overlooking Chilliwack and the eastern Fraser Valley is shorter and less steep and is about 800m in distance (round trip). Allow about 45 minutes for this hike. Other popular activities include mountain biking and wildlife viewing. Please note that the road accessing Sumas Mountain Regional Park is shared. Be aware of mountain bikes, all terrain vehicles, trucks and work vehicles.

Rules and Regulations:

The Park's trail system and floating walkway offer about 2km of level walking trails and walkways.

Dogs must be on leash and under control at all times. Please clean up after your dog.

Swimming opportunities in Chadsey Lake. Swim at your own risk. There are no lifeguards on duty.

Fishing is permitted in Chadsey Lake.

Black Bears and cougars are seen in the park and need to be respected at all times.

Bird watching, wildlife viewing and photography are very popular in the Park.

There are no facilities in this park.  Please pack out what you pack in.

Horses are prohibited on park trails.

Bicycles are prohibited on park trails due to safety concerns.  Mountain bikes are permitted on designated trails only.

Motorized vehicles are prohibited outside the parking area.

No open fires permitted. Hibachis, campstoves and BBQ's are permitted.

Leave all park fauna where and how you found it.

Hunting and the discharge of firearms or bows is prohibited

No camping or overnight parking permitted.



How to Get There:

The park is located on Sumas Mountain just west of Chilliwack. From North Parallel Rd turn onto Sumas Mountain Road. Stay on the main road which will change to Upper Sumas Mountain Road. After about 10 minutes, watch for Batt Road which will be on your right. Turn onto Batt Road and follow the signs until you pass the main gate about 800 m from where you turned off Batt Rd. Parking is located outside the upper gate, about 4.2 Km from the bottom gate. This upper gate is locked and managed by B.C. Hydro. You can park outside this gate and walk in to the park which begins at about a 1 Km distance. Chadsey Lake trailhead is about 2 Km from the upper gate while Sumas Peak trailhead is just less than 3 Km away.  Click here to view a driving map.
