Neilson Regional Park's ten hectares borders on Hatzic Lake east of Mission. The Park is popular for large picnics and organized gatherings, nature viewing and beach activities. A small run of chum and coho salmon, which arrives in early November, spawn in Draper Creek that runs through the park. Bald eagles are common feeding on the spawning salmon. Deer are commonly seen as well as the occasional black bear. Neilson Park has full facilities with handicap toilets, change rooms, water, picnic shelter, and 15 picnic tables.




General Information

Rules and Regulations:

Easy to moderate hiking trails.  Three minute one way walk to Hatzic Lake from the parking lot.

Swimming is popular in Hatzic Lake. Swim at your own risk. There are no lifeguards on duty.

Canoeing and rafting opportunities on Hatzic Lake.

Fishing is permitted in Hatzic Lake. Draper Creek is closed to fishing.

Picnic tables can be found at the picnic shelter and at the Hatzic Lake beach.

There are two flush toilets and changerooms at the parking lot.
Electricity is avaliable at the picnic shelter.

A water pump is available at the picnic shelter and running water is in the washrooms.

Toilets and picnic tables are wheelchair accessible.

Black Bears regularly seen in the park and need to be respected at all times.

Bird watching, wildlife viewing and photography are very popular in the Park.

Dogs are prohibited in the park for the protection of wildlife. Even dogs on a leash frighten wildlife and limit viewing opportunities.

Horses are prohibited on park trails.

Bicycles are prohibited on park trails. Pedestrian traffic and poor visibility make bicycles hazardous for both cyclist and hiker.

Motorized vehicles are prohibited outside the parking area.

No open fires permitted. Hibachis, campstoves and BBQ's are permitted.

Leave all park fauna where and how you found it.

Hunting and the discharge of firearms or bows is prohibited

No camping or overnight parking permitted.



Fee Structure:

Fees are collected from Apr 1 - Oct 1 for picnic shelter reservations. Call 604-820-5140 to make reservations. Fees for picnic shelter reservations are $30.00 /day Monday through Thursday, $50.00 /day Friday through Sunday and statuary holidays. A $50.00 damage deposit is required.

How to Get There:

To get there, travel east from Mission along the Lougheed Highway. turn left on to Dewdney Trunk Road. Turn right on McEwan Avenue , then left on Edwards Street. Follow Edwards Street (east) to the end where you will find the park. Click here to view a driving map.

 

Hours of Operation:

The Park is open year round from 8:00 am - 8:00 pm daily.
