Neilson Park Replanting
Nearly two-hundred native tree and shrub species were planted at Neilson Park on October 23, 2009.  Despite a rainy morning, over thirty dedicated individuals from FVRD Parks, Hatzic Secondary School and the Central Valley Naturalists braved the weather to lend a hand for the morning event.  This project was funded in part by the Trees for Tomorrow initiative aimed to reduce greenhouse gasses.  These trees will also enhance Draper Creek's riparian zone, provide habitat for wildlife and offer shade for park visitors.  Thanks to Mission Safeway and Mission Save-On-Foods for generously donating items for the BBQ that followed the planting.  (Oct 23/ 09)

Trumpeter Swans at Cheam Lake Wetlands

Trumpeter Swans continue at Cheam Lake Wetlands with over three hundred on March 14, 2009.  Providing excellent viewing opportunities, they should be seen until about the last week of March before they all head north to the Arctic tundra to nest.  They will return again in early November. (Mar 16/ 09)
