In the FVRD, responsible waste management is a shared concern and a shared responsibility. Most of our six member municipalities (Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, Harrison Hot Springs, Hope and Kent) provide waste management services to their residents, while the FVRD offers a number of garbage and recycling services to its electoral area residents.

Although our region provides waste management services and programs, our goal is to reduce the amount of garbage that is generated and landfilled. This goal and the strategies to accomplish it are outlined in the FVRD's Solid Waste Management Plan; a ten year plan which guides the region's solid waste management practices. We are currently updating this plan to reflect how the region will manage an increasing waste problem driven by an increasing population.
