Cheam Lake Wetlands became a park in 1990 and is popular for hikes, picnics, and bird watching. The 93 hectare park is recovering after being mined for marl limestone deposits for 50 years beginning in the early 1900's. The park is comprised of lake, marsh and forest and is home to many insect, mammal, and bird species. To date, 184 different bird species have been recorded in the park. The park's trail system is approximately two kilometers long, ideal for all ages, and features raised walkways and an elevated viewing platform. This park is designed and managed to protect sensitive habitat and wildlife. It is unsuitable for pets and any intensive recreation. Facilities include an information kiosk, information shelter, toilets, seasonal running water (non-drinkable), and six picnic tables.
