The Strategic Planning & Initiatives department focuses on future growth and development within the FVRD and is responsible for establishing and maintaining First Nations relations. In 2004, the FVRD adopted its Regional Growth Strategy Choices for our Future. As set out in the Local Government Act, "The purpose of a Regional Growth Strategy is to promote human settlement that is socially, economically and environmentally healthy and that makes efficient use of public facilities and services, land and other resources."
