Sunshine Valley Community is located on Highway 3 just before Manning Park's western entrance.  It is an all-season resort residential community set in the scenic Sumallo and Nicolum River Valleys.  There are six neighbourhoods comprising the community:  Alpine, Cedar, Parkhill, Huckleberry, Meadow and Sumallo. These villages were established in the 1970s and 1980s.

What’s new?
UPDATE March 28, 2013 - Community input needed on draft Sunshine Valley Zoning

The FVRD wants to hear your opinion on the proposed Sunshine Valley Zoning Bylaw.  There are a  number of ways you can learn more and tell us what you think:

For more information please review the background reports and community meeting notes (see right hand column of this webpage). You can also refer to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) or contact FVRD staff at
1-800-528-0061 or forwardplanning@fvrd.bc.ca

What’s next?

After consideration of the community survey and the April 13, 2013 Public Information Meeting feedback, the FVRD Regional Board of Directors at their May 28, 2013 meeting will decide whether to;

  1. Move ahead with the bylaw (including bylaw amendments) to 2nd reading and hold a public hearing;
  2. defeat the bylaw, or
  3. some other treatement of the bylaw (ie. defer)

The FVRD will keep the community informed of the Regional Board's decision through updates to the FVRD Sunshine Valley website and community emails.

How did we get here?

In 2007/2008 Sunshine Valley residents who participated in the Vision for Sunshine Valley expressed a desire for increased public involvement.  Once the Vision was completed, the FVRD Regional Board appointed an Advisory Planning Commission (APC) to provide them with advice and feedback on Sunshine Valley issues.

In July 2010, the FVRD hosted a Zoning Dialogue event.  This event was a response to local concerns about the lack of public process for significant land use changes that were occurring or proposed for Sunshine Valley.  In the end, Zoning Dialogue participants were uncertain whether zoning was needed or not, and asked that the FVRD provide a draft zoning document for public review and input.

The draft zoning bylaw was given 1st reading in March 2012 and the first public feedback meeting was held on October 6, 2012. The FVRD has received a number of comments, and will be making amendments to the draft zoning bylaw over the coming months.  Once the amendments are complete, a further public consultation process on a revised draft zoning bylaw is expected in February – April 2013

Meet with the FVRD

Do you want to organize a small group of 6 to 10 people (ie. kitchen table or coffee session) to meet with FVRD representatives to discuss the draft zoning bylaw, ask questions, and share your thoughts?  Individual meetings can also be arranged.  Please contact the planning department at 1-800-528-0061 or forwardplanning@fvrd.bc.ca for more details.

Please continue to visit our website to stay informed about what’s happening with the zoning.
